Trip to Harrisonburg

What an exciting weekend, especially for Owen! We loaded the car and drove 5 hours back home to VA. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by Grammie, Poppy, Uncle Marc, Aunt Kimmie, Cousins Angelina & Garbriella, Aunt Dawn, and Betty (cousins “nana”)! We had a typical meal out, typical meaning chaos with all the kids and missed bedtimes. Saturday morning, poppy, daddy, & Owen packed the car and headed to breakfast (Little Grill) and then left for “The Land” in WVA. Little did we know, Owen would experience a lot of “first” on this adventure. Owen fished in poppy’s pond and actually caught a fish! Erik being the great daddy, wanted to be sure Owen knew what the fishing pole felt like when a fish was tugging on the line… daddy left of the pole and so did Owen! Owen wasn’t sure about the tugging fishing pole, but once he saw the fish that “ate his worm”, he was excited. Owen had his first experience on a four wheeler, which he loved. As he sat very relaxed, daddy hit a bump and Owen bumped his head… coming home with a bruise and cut on his forehead. Owen had his first experience going cacka in poppy’s toilet at the land! Woo Hoo… this was definitely the more exciting part of the trip (at least for mommy to hear). Finally at 2 years 5.5 months old… our first born has pooped in the toilet! We are started to feel free and any parent reading this that has children who are now potty trained, knows this feeling of freedom.
While the boys played at “The Land”, the girls stayed home. Grammie watched Angelina, Gabriella, and Camden while me and Kim treated ourselves to a relaxing manicure/pedicure. We come home to Grammie’s “pre” tea party. All three little ones sitting in the kitchen with extremely fragile tea sets, mugs filled with sweet lemonade and delicate PB&J sandwiches on the plates. No worries, Camden was in her high chair with her plastic bottle drinking milk! It’s time… we have to prepare for our tea party. Hmmm, what will the girls wear? We didn’t come prepared with fancy dresses! Wait, Grammie has a solution. She disappears for a few seconds and arrives back in the kitchen with 3 perfect little dresses, almost the right sizes! Angelina dresses an old flower girl dress from someone’s wedding (we aren’t sure and it wasn’t anytime recently), Gabriella in a little dress that Lora wore when she was around 3, and Camden dressed in a little ballerina outfit that Annalise wore when she was 1. We took our tray of cookies and glasses of milk outside on the veranda. Angelina & Gabriella sat very patiently as Kim served them a variety of little cookies. Camden wanted to climb on the table and sit on the tray of cookies, she doesn’t have as much patients as her cousins yet.

The boys came home. Aunt Dawn & Charlie (newest addition, cutest white puppy), & Aunt Debbie came over for a visit, we cooked out. Sunday came quickly and we said our goodbyes. I wish we could tell you that traveling with a 2 ½ and 1 year was pleasant and easy, however it took an enormous amount of patience. It was a 5 hour trip, no naps (Owen slept for 30 minutes but woke to Camden’s cry), and we stopped 4 times for Owen to either use the bathroom. All our friends that have kids and not one mention of “limit your newly potty trained child’s liquid intake on car trips”… thanks friends! We finally arrived home after lots of snacks, tears, and screaming… pulling off the exit, only 2 miles from our house, Camden finally decides to close her eyes and take a nap. We just love our little angels!
