San Francisco

Erik & I headed to San Francisco for 5 nights, leaving the kids with Bubba & Grandpa for the weekend and then Grammie came to visit for several days.  We came to San Francisco for a Hilton Convention, work for Erik, but we decided to fly out early and spend the weekend with Ian & Alison.  They flew in from LA and the weekend was a wirl wind of sites, food, and drinks.

Friday night upon arrival was a big adventure.  We landed in San Fran, hopped on the BART to Powell Street, walked 3 extremely busy blocks to the Hilton Union Square where we walked into our beautiful room with an amazing view on the 41st floor.  We hopped in a cab to meet Ian & Alison for dinner and drinks, only to have been given the wrong address of where were meeting them.  Two cabs later and Ian standing on a street corner we found the awesome CafĂ© Claude.  We had a late dinner and drinks.  We stopped at an Irish Pub for a few drinks before heading back to the hotel.  When our heads hit the pillow, we had been awake for 23 hours.  It felt good to sleep.

Saturday was jammed packed!  We took a cab to Fisherman's Wharf, took in the beautiful sea lions, a fried fish lunch, and then bike rentals.  We biked along the bay, up a few hills and finally across the Golden Gate Bridge and into Sausalito's to Ferry back to San Francisco.  The ferry gave us an great view of Alcatraz.  We ended our day with a fabulous dinner at Mona Lisa in Littly Italy and then a showing of Steve Silver's Beach Blankey Babylon which provided a great laugh.

Sunday was our last day with Ian & Alison and the last of Erik's free time before his welcome reception that started at 6:30pm.  We visited the Ferry Building and the famous Haight Ashbury.  We took our 3rd cab for the day to Polkers Gourment Burgers, delicious and the very generous wine pours were appreciated.  With a few hours before left before Ian & Alison head back to LA and Erik heads to his HGI Welcome Party, we decided to relax and watch the Steelers/Jets game.  Take-out Thai for me and much needed rest!

Monday was my first day solo - I walked the streets and shopped of course!  Erik & I had an amazing dinner at Tadich Grill, the oldest restaurant in California (160 years old).  The atmosphere was awesome and the staff was great, majority over the age of 70 - these men were so refreshing.

Tuesday was our last day in San Francisco.  Erik spent the day at the conference.  I hopped on the trolley and went back to the Ferry Building.  I enjoyed a peaceful lunch at Hog Island Oyster (pretty sure one of the best Oyster spots in SF).  While Erik had dinner and entertainmnaent at the conference, I enjoyed dinner at The Stinking Rose and some of the best ice cream in San Francisco, Mitchell's Ice Cream with an old middle school friend - small world, I know!

Bye San Francisco - we are going back home to see our little ones.  Until next time....
