Owen - Future Olympic Swimmer

Owen recently wrapped up another session of swim lessons. He has been working so hard over the pass year, barely missing a week of swim lessons (just one day a week with the summer off). Owen received his American Red Cross card for completing the requirements for Level II. We can't forget the fancy turquoise Level II patch. His picture from this morning is attached, a little water logged! He is now moving up to Level III and Cammie will start Level I (which means no more mommy in the pool - woo hoo)!

Indulge me a moment as I share the skills that Owen had to achieve in order to pass Level II :)

• Submerge head and retrieve objects with eyes open underwater

• Bobbing - 5 times
• Front float with recovery
• Back float with recovery
• Front glide and recovery - 2 body lengths
• Back glide and recovery - 2 body lengths
• Reverse direction while swimming on front and back
• Turn over from front to back
• Turn over from back to front
• Treading water - chest deep water
• Finning on back
• Back crawl - 25 feet
• Front crawl - 25 feet
• Demonstrate tuck and jellyfish float
• Float in a life jacket - 1 minute (he can climb out of the water with his jacket on too and knows the proper way to jump in the water with the jacket)


Future Olympic swimmer?  Maybe, maybe not but what we do know is that he LOVES the pool and feels very comfortable swimming on his own and practicing his front and back crawl. 

This smile on his face is priceless, especially when he realizes how proud we are of him!
