Thanksgiving in Joffre, PA

We have so much to be thankful for this year! Not only are we in great health, warm house and unlimited access to food, but we have a very big family with huge hearts.  We had the pleasure of spending Thanksgiving (5 nights) with the Kohlenstein Family in Joffre, PA.  We stayed with Bubba & Grandpa, Aunt Jaime, Uncle Greg, & baby Austin, and Uncle Ian & Alison joined us from California.  We spent the week with Aunt Betsy & Mark, Aunt Bo & Uncle Chops, Cassie and her family and lots of other family.

Our Thanksgiving was a FEAST in a garage. I know, right! In a garage, you did read that correctly. Uncle Willie who lives a block away has a huge garage that was "transformed" into our dining room for Thanksgiving dinner. Backdrops were hung to cover garage items, tables/chairs were rented and covered with white table clothes to seat 30. We can't forget the lovely turkey decorations that sat rested on the tables. We cooked 5 turkeys, 40lbs of mash potatoes, cases of wine and beer, and a lot of other delicious items. It was an insane amount of food but laughed a lot, played cards, and who can forget the "snow". The snow produced by a snow machine that Uncle Ian thought was real snow, he even gave it a taste. No, it didn't taste good. Owen & Cammie had lots of fun rubbing it in the carpet, in hair, and on their clothes. Oh and we had a visit from Mr Turkey Tom!


Daddy & Uncle Ian took Owen for many 4-wheeler rides and lots of walks in the cold crisp air.  Owen shot is first "gun".  He also continued his 4th birthday celebration, which I'm sure enjoyed!  We must mention the Burgettstown 5K Turkey Trot.  A "fun" race in the cold and constant pour of rain.  The most fun was the last 3/4 of a mile that was straight up hill.  My marathon training paid off as I passed Uncle Greg meters before the finish (28:03 - woo hoo).  Aunt Kim, Uncle Marc, Angelina & Gabriella made a trip to Joffre to spend Saturday with us! 

It was so much fun to spend time in Joffre and so much appreciation to Aunt Betsy for opening her home to us! The good news, it's still standing and in one piece upon leaving :)  We are thankful for our families and the many laughs over the week.
